Power struggle in the Balkans

Ever since the Serbian-Kosovo war of the nineties, the fall of communism and the break-up of Yugoslavia. There has been a continued tension within the region. Serbia being a staunch ally to Russia has been viewed as the only guilty party within this conflict. That every other player responsible for the atrocious events that unfolded. Now a days. If you are a Serb living outside of Serbia. You are not treated with the basic rights that all citizens enjoy. Nothing is being said about the atrocities that the Albanians carried out against the Serbs. But because they were perceived as fighting for western interests. Their acts of war were never widely reported.

As many parts of the Balkans and ex-Yugoslavia were under Soviet rule, that means that Russia, with strong cultural, economic and vested interests in the region has been making moved in the recent years to bring countries within that sphere back on board, sometimes forcibly. For instance. In 2016 Montenegrin police arrested some 20 Serbs and Montenegrins whom they were described as attempting to assassinate the prime minister, Milo Djukanovic. A plot that had been backed by the Russian go to man for the Balkans, Nikolai Petroshev. Why was this plot carried out? It was to stop the accession of Montenegro into NATO. For to gain NATO membership is to align yourself with American and western ideology.

The ‘America first’ policy taken by the American’s leaves much to be desired in the Balkans region. President Donald Trump is a straight hard-hitting President, who does not back down from anything, so far. This seems to have struck a cord with some Balkan countries. America is at the core of it all, NATO. It is Americans who contribute the most to NATO and the letters stand for North Atlantic Trade Organisation. If countries like Montenegro, Serbia and Bosnia et al wish to become members. The it is imperative, from the Americans point of view that these countries align themselves with the west and adopt the values of western culture. Rather than aligning with Russia and the west. Due to massive corruption in the Balkans the Americans have been very apprehensive about helping out corrupt states. This President Trump sees as s waste of time and money. Money well better spent on other courses of action elsewhere. In contrast to Russia. The Americans do not have the same level of historical significance as Russia. They do not have the same level of economic and political power that the Russians do. What they do have is a major network of power playing allies that at a call can assemble forces that would stretch any countries military might. We all saw this during the 90’s when it was the NATO forces that attacked military bases in Bosnia: 1995 and then lead a bombing campaign to stop ethnic cleansing of Albanians in Kosovo:1999.

If there is ever to be military conflict in the Europe in the future, then it will most definitely unfurl in the Balkans region. With the collapse of the Soviet Union, ever since there has been a covert power struggle to see who can lay claim to this region. Both America and Russia are destabilizing the region. They do this so that it creates dissention within the country and turns the citizens against one super power over the other. In my opinion there is going to be a divide between the Balkans, with parts of the region going under American authority and the remainder going under Russian influence. What ever the case, lets hope that military might is not needed to settle differences.

Balkans, the culture in a book

My next trip is already on my agenda and I will go back to Balkans, an area where I have been different times in last years. This time the country to be visited is Macedonia, not the Greek region but the country that now is called Republic of North Macedonia. I will have some work meeting in different places, so I want to try to plan some time as a tourist and explore better also some towns where I have been without so much time to see the attractions and the curiosities.

In the years I bought some books to know better the history of Former Yugoslavia and go deep in the culture, but I continue to research to know more because those countries are reach of history with a lot of connections with Western Europe. I decide to read an old book of a travel experience…

Fighting authoritarianism

The liberal leftists are at it again. The nation of Hungary is in the firing line this time. RT and Deutsche Welle, et al, have all started reporting on the European Unions choice to invoke article 7 of the 2007 Lisbon treaty, of often referred to as the ‘nuclear option’, will in effect will strip Hungary of its European voting rights. A real slap in the face to its democracy. The EU, like I said before, it is a sinking ship. They are hell-bent on taking down everyone they possibly can. Too bad about Hungary’s own political system, which democratically was agreed upon. If its not inline with how George Soros and the bureaucrats in Brussels want their vision to be. The will flex their might to scare everyone that stands up to them, back in their place.

Hungary has implemented systems to keep out the influx of illegal migration sweeping Europe. The Hungarian prime minister was quoted when speaking to the EU that, “you condemn us because we are not a nation of migrants”. Each European country should be able to decide on how their own country is run. If not, then the EU is turning into a dictatorial regime. I thought we were past those days. Hungary has tightened its borders and it has refused on each occasion to share the burden of these illegal migrants that come from Africa and beyond. We are already seeing the unwillingness of these illegals to integrate into society. Attacks on civilians are just another day occurrence. It is sickening the way we must put up with the plight of these illegals. Yet it is the taxpayer’s money that goes to sheltering them.

Nigel Farage, a firm believer of the UK leaving the single Market turned to the twittersphere to say “European parliament votes to remove Hungary’s voting rights, the authoritarian grip of the EU gets even tighter. As well as a Croatian MP by the name of Marijana Petir saying that she voted against article 7. That there needed to be dialogue to bring all parties to the table and come to an agreement. So not everyone voted for this article 7. 197 MPs voted against it, 447 for.

You see all the European newspapers reporting this. But when it comes to the UK? Nothing. The reach and power that George Soros has over the British media is incredible. Oh, there will be something no doubt come out over the next day or so. But guaranteed it ill be an article praising the EU for standing up to Hungary. Lies and fake news, that’s all it ill be. A fabricated story by Brussels. You know what. The UK will eat out of Europe’s hand, all because Mrs May needs a good relationship with the EU to get a deal through. Or else her job s caput.

When is this dictatorial behaviour going to stop? When it is too late? I ask you. Should it not be down to the individual countries to make up their own minds. Instead of having their choice taken away from them? I am sure that we have not heard the last of this. Stay tuned people. I will update this blog when I find more on this contentious issue.

Assassination attempt thwarted by the Russian FSB

Latest reports from the RT news network is that the FSB (Federal security service), Russia’s security agency have arrested an ISIS militant, born in Southern Dagestan Republic, in the Smolensk region of Western Russia.

After being interrogated by authorities he confessed that he was acting on behalf of the Ukraine, that the intelligence service SBU (Sluzhba Bezpeky Ukrayiny) ordered him to carry out the assassination of a high-ranking rebel in the East Ukraine, self-declared Donetsk Peoples Republic. The Militant went further to say that the Ukraine was actively providing support to fighters f ISIS with weapons, explosives, ammunition, funding and whatever they required, to wage war against the Russian Federation. Kiev has come out saying that this has been completely fabricated and is just another fake news story. Designed to discredit Kiev and its security services.

Now, this has been reported by a Russian news agency. Be careful before jumping to conclusions on this one. RT is owned by the Russian President, Vladimir Putin. This could just be another fake news story. This is very disturbing if it is proven that the \Ukraine is funding ISIS. But it will align with how the US is actively supporting the rebels in Syria. In August the DNR rebel leader Alexander Zakharchenko was assassinated, as commented on previously in another blog. I find it suspicious that another assassination, within two weeks of each other is highly suspicious. The time lines do not exactly line up. Is this an attempt to sow discord into the West? To provoke even more outrage from those that support the Ukraine?

With the information ‘potentially’ given up by this militant, this would stir a whole heap of condemnation from the International community. If these reports are found to be true. Kiev will have some serious explaining to do to her allies. If the Ukraine is seen to be actively harbouring terrorists. Then that is an act that would see them put on the list of state sponsors of terrorism. A list that the USA concocted. The US being a staunch ally of the Ukraine.

The allegations this article by RT news presents is a clear violation of the Budapest Memorandum. Signed by both Superpowers along with Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan. This memorandum also included security assurances against threats or use of force. That memorandum works both ways. If the Ukaine is seen to be attacking Russia. It is in violation of the signed agreement.

Such an accusatory article will surely bring about many questions. Most mainstream media will not comment on this. Rather they will let it just blow over. After all. This allegation has been made against one of their allies. What are your thoughts on the situation? Leave a comment below or follow me on my social media channels.
